Today Kimblee and I went to the Fiber Witch Festival in Salem, MA. This was our first time attending. Since I’m a fiber artist, I wanted to see if I could find any interesting yarns or fabrics for my work.

It was an indoor market where people were selling anything from yarn to mugs to decorative brooms. I love art markets so much because you’ll never know what you’ll find. I don’t really go to conventions anymore, but my favorite part of any convention is easily the artist alley. I wish they’d make artist alleys bigger at cons, or have more standalone events such as Minna Art Market in Texas. I attended once and it was awesome!

We also went to a nearby record store called Residency Records. It specializes in metal records as well as occult and local records. I scored an awesome find that is neither of those things but still perfectly on brand for a town as silly as Salem: an original 1978 record of Sesame Street Fever. It’s all incredibly fun disco remixes of Sesame Street songs, and although the record isn’t considered particularly valuable on the secondhand market, it is a treasure I didn’t even know I needed until today. Kimblee is still making fun of me for getting it, but I know he secretly finds it amusing. Sophie loves Sesame Street though, so Kimblee is unfortunately outnumbered two to one here.

Today was fun! Massachusetts kind of goes quiet in the winter as far as events go, but now that’s its spring everything is happening at once all of a sudden. Not only was the Fiber Witch Festival happening, but there was also some kind of Pirate Festival happening. We kept seeing people dressed as pirates in the wild.

In the end I didn’t get any yarn, but I had a great time regardless! I got a lot of inspiration though as there was some amazing craftsmanship on display. I feel energized to go hard on my own work now!
Hope you’re having a good weekend where you are!
